Marsal Education Emergency Fund is intended to help meet the financial needs of Marsal Education undergraduate and graduate students who encounter an emergency situation or one-time, unusual, or unforeseen expense during their degree program. We encourage students to seek support from Rackham Graduate School, the Center for the Education of Women, and the Office of Financial Aid prior to utilizing Marsal Education funding.
Awards may be awarded up to $1,500 each (support which exceeds this must be approved by the appropriate associate dean in Marsal Education). Students should contact the Office of Financial Aid for help in evaluating specific individual financial circumstances.
Note: Students who qualify for and receive an Emergency Fund award may notice a reduction in their federal loans. An international student, for whom support is granted, may receive an award that exceeds $1,500 because taxes are taken out of the award (about 14% of the students' award).
Application Deadline:
Winter 2025 Application Deadline: December 1 by 11:59 p.m. for supporting work in winter 2025. Candidacy Tuition Fellowships (CTFs) are awarded to support outstanding doctoral students in Educational Studies (ES) and the Center for the Student of Higher and Postsecondary Education (CSHPE) who have reached candidacy but do not have GSRA, GSI, or GSA funding to pay their tuition, fees, or health care costs.
Program chairs in ES and the CSHPE as well as the senior associate dean for research and graduate studies are charged with selecting students for this support from among those who apply. Students will be notified by the School of Education’s dean office regarding their selection for this funding.
Students who are scheduled to defend their dissertations should not apply for a CTF, but for a Dissertation Finishing Grant, which provides tuition for the semester of the defense. If you have any questions, please email them to Lisa Hawkins (ES) or Melinda Richardson (CSHPE).
